Week 7 / Initial Concepts Continued

For this concept, I cut up cheese and am planning on photographing these on a person’s tongue. I think this would be visually interesting and reinforce the temporary nature of things in life.

I also want to look further into different ways to express it such as:
-melting ice blocks
-written in the sand
-made from shells
-made from rubbish – juxtapose the idea of things being ‘liminal’
-cutting bananas/ other fruits – close up shot of knife and the hand placing the fruit
-petals/ leaves/ sticks on top of grass

Week 7 / Initial Idea

LOOK HERE by Rachel Bush (1944-)

It is morning because the sun has risen. It is morning because the darkness is packed off to Europe and because the clock says so and the radio and the wet clothes sinking down from the line begin to be responsible again, try to shake themselves and face up to drying and it is morning because the jug quivers and bubbles and switches itself off and my fingers force the skin off my orange, and the blue and white teapot holds fresh tea, and it is morning because things to be done line up 1n front of me and say, look here.

The Hungry Woman (Victoria University Press, 1997)

I found meaning in this entire poem, particularly the bolded lines. This reminds me of my childhood at my bach. There used to be giant sand dunes that ran along the entirety of the beach, however, over time these dunes have diminished slowly and are now almost flat. This idea of time and something being momentary brings me to my idea.

My thoughts from this are that everything in life is temporary.

The may be temporary but take years to reach their finality or they may only have a day or a few hours of life. I think this could be interesting to explore typographically.

Words to explore:

  • Temporary
  • Ephemeral
  • Liminal
  • Momentary
  • Transient
  • Fleeting
  • Impermanent
  • Short-lived
